Curb Appeal

Posted by: Tom Harte

First impressions are crucial when it comes to selling your home.  If a buyer doesn’t like a home’s outward appearance they may not take a look at the inside.  When trying to sell your house it’s important that your landscaping and home exterior be in tiptop shape. Boost your home's curb appeal and get buyers through your door with these pointers:

  • Act Like a Buyer- walk around your entire home's exterior with a critical eye and take notes on what looks "off" and needs to be repaired, replaced or cleaned.  Don’t forget the roof!
  • House Numbers– think shiny and happy
  • Power Wash– the house, sidewalks, patios and decks
  • Plant Some Color, Add Some Lighting - spruce porch containers, window boxes and front beds with colorful flowers, add solar light fixtures

One final thing to remember is that Curb Appeal Starts Online.  If your house is on the market, review your homes online photos as if you were the buyer and have them retaken if necessary.  If you’re thinking about selling your home take some photos of your house and examine them as a buyer would and remove the extras.
